Deep
Mapping
Deep mapping is a research practice that brings together different perspectives, materials and forms of knowledge. Fieldwork, photography, documentary, archives, listening and cartography all contribute to building layered representations of places.
In my work, film and photography do not simply illustrate research: they are tools for observing, questioning and narrating places.
Deep mapping as an ongoing practice
In my work, deep mapping finds its most continuous application within Studi sul Qui, a territorial research and cultural production project I co-founded with Daniele Ietri in 2017. The project works in seasons across different places, bringing together visual practices, field research and different forms of knowledge.
Within Studi sul Qui I work mainly through photography, documentary film and visual practices. Each season grows out of time spent in places, observation and encounters with people, bringing images, sound, writing, cartography and other research materials into dialogue.

Publications
These books accompany the different seasons of Studi sul Qui and gather texts, images and materials produced during residencies and deep mapping activities.
