Eleonora Mastropietro is a geographer and a documentary filmmaker.
Associated professor at the University of Milan, she teaches Urban Geography and Methods for the Representation and Communication of Territories, and heads the Visual Geography laboratory as well as the video production and editing laboratory for territorial research and communication.
After graduating in Arts in Milan, she obtained her PhD from the University of Bologna in 2009. In 2007, she studied film writing at the Civica Scuola di Cinema in Milan and then documentary filmmaking. She participated in workshops and training courses and collaborated on the direction of collective films.
In her work, she blends territorial observation and documentary filmmaking with the methodology and study of academic research.
She is a founder member of La Fournaise Cultural Association, where she has produced and written documentaries screened at film festivals and in all venues open to public viewing, both institutional and non-institutional.
In 2018, she directed her first feature film, "Storia dal Qui", which was presented at the 2018 Festival dei Popoli.
"Montanario – Upon that Mountain", which premiered in competition at the 71st Trento Film Festival in 2023, is her second feature film.
